Content Objectives:
Students Will:
1. Learn to experiment with different shading techniques and styles.
2. Improve upon ability to shade gradually.
3. Review how to balance positive(figure) and negative(ground) space.
4. When shading objects (vs. Landscapes) identify how light tones advance, and dark tones recede.
5. Learn the term "Value" as an element of art.

Language Objectives:

Students Will:

1. Listen to and watch as teacher demonstrates the techniques of texture shading


2. Clearly articulate the art of shading by using the proper vocabulary

3. Comprehend and make a connection between the four forms and real objects

4. Students will summarize their piece by writing a sentence that best
describes their piece


Vocabulary:
Value: The lightness or darkness found on objects.
Form: A three-dImensional shape with height, length and width.
Shading: Shows a change from light to dark on an object and is blended with a tortillon
Shadows: Are created when an object blocks the light.
Tortillon: A tightly wrapped paper used to blend values in shading.




Students will:
1. Create a texture value scale using four different techniques (Shading(blending), hatching, crosshatching, stippling) and four different mediums. Use handout and worksheet to complete this project
2. Using the form hand out and teacher guided instruction, students will draw the four forms(cylinder, cube, cone, sphere) and shade according to the texture shading from the previous worksheet.
3. Students will turn the forms into real objects. This makes the connection between the practice worksheets and drawing 3-D objects
4. Students will look at the still life provided and will create their own still life or landscape. They will have the choice of texture shading for their composition. Students will use pencil to complete their project.

1. Did you complete the shading worksheet according to directions?
2. Did you Did you create your composition, using prior knowledge of shading?
3. Did you complete your project in a timely manner?
4. Did you participate in class discussions using the proper vocabulary?
5. Did you keep your work area clean and return work to the folders before exiting.

Differentiation: Students are graded based on their individual learning exceptionality
