Teacher will read the dictionary definition and the students will create a student friendly definition that they all can agree upon. The definitions are placed on the board and students will copy these definitions into their journals.
Students will be shown examples of animal (people) font designs. Students will be introduced to geometric and free form shapes. Patterns will be shown that show how to repeat a design with these shapes.
1. Students will choose a letter template and trace their letter on black construction paper using a white charcoal pencil.
2. Students will cut out their letter and glue it onto a colored construction paper of their choice.
3. Students will begin creating their animal font, by placing eye(s) first, then the nose and mouth. Once the facial features are done, they will add more geometric and free form shapes, creating patterns to complete their font collage.
4. Once the design is complete, students will take the post test and will write an artists caption for their art.
5. Students will present their project to the teacher for grading.
