Vocabulary Words:

Value:       The darkness or lightness of a color
Blending: To gradually mix different values together using a tortillon
Shading:
Showing change from light to dark or dark to light in a picture
Tortillon:   A tightly rolled paper stump, used for blending values together
Pattern:
The repetition of anything — shapes, lines, or colors

Procedure:
1. You will complete a shading worksheet thatwill include a value scale as well as shading the four forms, according to guided instruction.
2.Once you have completed the worksheet, you will practice the letters that will be used in your project. I have supplied you with the practice paper you will use. As you look at the example above, you will see that I chose only 3 letters with 2 of the letters repeated twice. I used my initials. If your name will fit in the pattern above, you may use that.
3. Shade all letters as directed during the demonstration. Once the letters are complete, you will also shade the background of the letters. This part is all done with pencil.
4. According to your practice piece, where you chose a theme, complete this with colored pencil, using blending of colors as shown in the demonstration. Remember to color the background as well. See example above.

Evaluation:

1. You must complete the worksheet and hand it in, in a timely manner.
2. You need to complete the practice sheet which shows that you have mastered the letters you are using, as well as presenting your theme. The theme involves items that say something about you. I chose art supplies and sewing supplies as my hobbies.
3. You will complete your project using your best craftsmanship. Hurried art work leads to messy art work. Do your best!
4. You will turn in your project in a timely manner. All work must include your first and last names, grade and day that you come.
You will also be evaluated on your participation in class, behavior and clean up.
