Vocabulary: Elements of Art
Line: A line is the path of a moving point. Shape: The element of art that describes a two-dimensional area (height and width). Color: An element of art that refers to "hue". Form: An element of art focused on all three dimensions (height, width and depth). Texture: The quality of a surface. How something feels/ Space: is the area around, above, and within an object. Value: The range of lightness or darkness in a color. |
Vocabulary:
Principles of Art
Balance: the arrangement of elements in an art work. Balance can be either formal symmetrical, informal asymmetrical or radial. Symmetrical Balance: Two sides of a composition are identical. Asymmetrical Balance: Two sides of a composition are different, but have the same visual weight. Emphasis: When one element of an artwork stands out more than another Variety: is to combine different elements (differences in shape, color, line, textuture. Rhythm / Movement:Rhythm or movement refers to the suggestion of motion through the use of various elements. Pattern: Design, motif or symbol repeated over and over. Unity: Unity is achieved when the components of a work of art are perceived as harmonious, giving the work a sense of completion. |

MEDIA are the materials used by artists to create art. Some artists work with one “medium” and other artists choose to work with several.
A work of art made with more than one “medium” is called a MIXED MEDIA work of art.
You will choose from the list below which media you will use in your mixed media Collage.
Use the media listed to explore what each can do and complete the chart. Use the chart to make the best choices for your Collage. Your collage can be a landscape, portrait, still life or abstract design.
Your collage must have at least 3 different mediums
