Materials:
Color wheel handout Color Wheel Worksheet Tempera paints Water Paint brush Pallet Newspaper Paper towel. |
Activity:
All Students will be given a vocabulary pretest at the beginning of the project. Once this is completed, students will be given the dictionary definition orally. Students will collaborate to create a student friendly definition. This new definition will be placed on the board and students will write these definitions in their journals.
Teacher will present the color wheel handout and instruct the students on how to read the color wheel.
Upon completion of teacher/student dialogue, students are given a blank color wheel. Teacher will demonstrate how to use paints, water and how to mix colors for tinting and shading the primary and secondary colors. Students will follow along with teacher.
All wet work will be placed on the dry rack at the end of class. Be sure names are on your paper. Students will continue with the worksheet until completion.
Upon completion, all work will be presented to the teacher. Students will complete the final vocabulary test and will write a caption for the worksheet.

Did students paint using their best painting skills?
Did students create the tints and shades correctly?
Did students use the tools properly?
Did students clean the tools properly?
Did students complete project in a timely manner?
Daily Assignment: Upon entering room, students will be given their journals. All students will write the vocabulary words and the definitions in their journals. Once they are done, they will get their artwork and supplies and return to their assigned seat to begin working. At dismissal time, all projects will be placed on the dry rack, tools will be cleaned and returned to their proper place. Students will reflect in their journals about what they learned today and will give journals to the teacher.. Return to seat to be dismissed.
